Over 100 years of academic excellence

Founded in 1899, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is one of the nation’s most respected osteopathic medical schools. The College welcomes students who bring unique skills and experiences to contribute to our community of learning. Through rigorous academic programs and with the help of esteemed faculty, our students learn to ask the right questions, listen for answers, and solve problems using their hands and minds. PCOM students learn a whole-person approach to medicine that emphasizes total wellness—in body, mind, and spirit.

Where to find us
The College encompasses a main campus in Philadelphia that's home to a variety of health-related graduate programs with a range of degree options, from online certificates to doctorates. To address the growing need for medical professionals in the South, PCOM Georgia in Suwanee, Georgia opened its doors in 2005, and PCOM South Georgia in Moultrie opened in August 2019 to welcome its inaugural class of DO students.

Why osteopathic medicine?
Integral to all programs and campuses is the College’s osteopathic practice of medicine—a whole—person approach to treating patients, not just addressing symptoms. Although PCOM is focused solidly on teaching, research and community outreach are also important components of the institution’s mission. The College houses a Center for Chronic Disorders of Aging, developing collaborative research and encouraging students to actively engage in research opportunities. We also have affiliated Healthcare Centers that serve the medical needs of urban and rural Pennsylvanians.

How our students define us
What is the PCOM difference? When asked, students describe a tight-knit and collaborative community. Our campuses are recognized for their spirits of collegiality and camaraderie rather than competitiveness. The warm environment inspires a sense of community and works to advance academic and personal growth as well as professional and career development.

PCOM students are encouraged to participate in community service and extracurricular activities. More than 60 chapter and national organizations, academic interest groups, athletic teams, charitable groups, and clubs offer social activities and leadership opportunities. Those who embrace the College’s osteopathic philosophy are often drawn to service and actively participate in blood drives, fundraising events, medical mission trips, and free health screenings throughout the community.
