Together we thrive

Welcome to Washington & Jefferson College, one of America's oldest and most distinguished liberal arts institutions. We have a proud tradition of preparing students for post-graduation success in a way that few colleges or universities match. At W&J, students discover their unique gifts and interests while benefitting from a personalized educational experience designed to meet the needs of each student. Beyond the classroom, students participate in more than 90 student organizations, play championship varsity sports, develop exceptional leadership qualities, and explore their interests around the world through our acclaimed Magellan Project.

Student success at Washington & Jefferson College begins with a generous financial aid program, with scholarships endowed by generations of alumni and friends of the College. It continues with devoted faculty mentors who support your academic performance every step of the way. And it extends beyond graduation as our network of 15,000 alumni helps students and each other find opportunities everywhere.

Academic programs
The College offers a robust, comprehensive learning experience with all students completing two concentrations of study: a double major or a major with a minor. New students can choose from 32 majors and 27 minors, ranging from traditional offerings like Business, Chemistry, English, and Music to interdisciplinary programs like African American Studies, Biochemistry, Computing & Information Studies, and Environmental Studies. If an existing major doesn't fit your goals, you can design your own major. We also have pre-professional programs in Law and numerous areas of Health Care. And if you have trouble deciding, faculty and staff are here to help you choose courses of study that align with your interests and goals.

Your community
When you arrive at W&J, you become part of a talented and engaged student body made up of individuals who are recognized for their abilities, dedication, and integrity. Take advantage of exceptional opportunities to participate in activities outside of the classroom that all add value to your education. You'll have access to mentors, advisors, peer counselors, and success consultants who will help you navigate your time on campus.

Intellectual engagement
We believe in a differentiated, outcomes-based experience for every student. Regardless of your career path, you’ll be valued by leading employers around the world. Ethical leadership training is built into each year of your academic experience. Our curriculum includes a required practicum that gives students the knowledge and confidence to prepare for the career that awaits them. With all this and more, you'll graduate in four years—we guarantee it.

Beyond the classroom
At W&J, you’ll utilize your academic strengths in a non-classroom setting to further your professional development. The College-required practicum provides the job-specific, hands-on knowledge employers want. Our students are hired by leading employers such as PPG, UPMC, Highmark, Deloitte, and other internationally recognized companies.
