College Planning Calendar: January 2023

Stay on top of the college planning process with our monthly College Planning Calendar for counselors, students, and parents. Happy January planning!

Winter break is almost over and a new semester will be starting soon! There’s a lot of college planning to do at the beginning of a new year. Here’s a look at the general monthly planning, special observances, and specific dates to stay on top of in January 2023 to help students during their college planning journeys.

General monthly planning

Month-long observances and celebrations

  • National Blood Donor Month: Donating blood helps save lives! And students can save lives, volunteer, and win money for college through the American Red Cross this month. Check out the Leaders Save Lives Scholarship Program to find out how to get involved.
  • National Braille Literacy Month: Braille literacy for the blind is just as important to uplift and support as visual literacy is. This month honors Louis Braille, the creator of the tactical writing and reading system.
  • International Creativity Month: Students should celebrate their creativity this month and the benefits it can bring by showcasing it on their college applications. If you know students who want to take their creative talents all the way to their career, they can check out our article Careers for People Who Want to Use Their Creativity.
  • National Mentoring Month: Mentors are extremely important for students’ personal and academic growth. Get your soon-to-be college students ready to seek support in their higher education journey with this advice on How Students Can Find Supportive Mentors in College.
  • National Hobby Month: Both students and counselors should make time to reinvest in their hobbies this month. (It’s especially worth it since students’ hobbies could result in scholarship money!)

CollegeXpress has helped me find so many scholarships that fit me. They match me to colleges I have specific interest in to make searching for colleges way easier and more efficient. CollegeXpress refers me to schools that have my major of interest and backup schools if I want to change my mind. CollegeXpress also gives out their own scholarships, so you have even more of a chance at gaining multiple scholarships. This website has helped me de-stress from the pressure of not being able to afford college, [of finding] what schools are right for me, and how to find easy access to scholarships that most people never knew existed.

It's an honor for me to be writing to share a little about my experience with CollegeXpress. I've been using CollegeXpress for about a year now, and the reason why I chose it is because it provides astonishing scholarships for every student around the globe. Besides that, this organization dispenses all the information necessary to help students get to college. CollegeXpress has helped me have an easier experience with applying to colleges and choosing the best fit for myself.

High School Class of 2023

Being a sophomore in high school, I never really worried about college. I thought it wasn't important to worry about until senior year. Through this program opportunity I came across, I realized how important it is to start looking at colleges early and start planning ahead. CollegeXpress has opened my eyes to what colleges require, what colleges are near me, and what they offer. The daily emails I get from CollegeXpress really help me look at the different options I have and what colleges I fit into. Without this website, I would not be taking the time out of my day to worry about what my future will be nor what opportunities I have. I could not be more grateful for such an amazing and useful website. It's thanks to CollegeXpress that not only me but my family now know how much potential I have in to getting into these colleges/universities that we thought were out of my reach.

CollegeXpress helped me overcome a huge hurdle. Because of the small town I live in, I felt like I would never achieve more. I felt like I could never go beyond because of costs. I feared I wouldn’t be able to find scholarships. I had no idea of where to start. With CollegeXpress, I easily found scholarships—they came to me. It was a helper, and I was instantly matched with opportunities to go above and beyond educationally.
