A Carlow education fosters growth inside and outside the classroom.

A tradition of academic excellence
As a private, coeducational Catholic university located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Innovation District—which features institutions of higher learning, health care centers, and high-tech companies—Carlow University believes in nurturing the creativity, diversity, talents, and skills of its students. Student success is accomplished through a tradition of academic excellence coupled with care for each student as an individual, which doesn’t end in the classroom or with an internship.

A commitment to social justice
Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1929, Carlow University reflects its heritage with a strong commitment to social justice. The University instills in its students and alumni a commitment to becoming ethical and responsible leaders who are committed to a just and merciful world. These qualities are touchstones of a Carlow education, encouraging students to demonstrate forward thinking, practice social responsibility, and offer service that makes a meaningful impact on their communities.

A place for you
The University is composed of two colleges. The College of Health and Wellness prepares students for careers in nursing, respiratory care, and other health-related fields, with an emphasis on creating leaders at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The College of Arts and Sciences is home to students seeking to major in Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Education, Psychology, and the humanities and social sciences—just to name a few.

No matter their major, students at Carlow will find exceptionally dedicated teachers and advisors who are active in their fields and equipped to deliver a highly personalized educational experience that meets each student’s particular needs and supports their future direction.

Care for each student
If students feel they need academic support, the Center for Academic Achievement is there to help you through individual and group tutoring as well as workshops in writing, research, and learning and study strategies. Our tutors are  professionals who are specialists in their fields as well as more than 40 fellow students who’ve mastered the skills and material for specific courses and have been recommended by Carlow faculty.

The Office of Career Development provides career planning services that help graduates make a successful transition from college to career. The Office prepares students for the job hunt by offering job listings and search tools, help with résumé writing, appointments for mock job interviews, and career advising every step of the way. Through partnerships with corporate and nonprofit organizations, Carlow is able to provide hands-on experiential learning opportunities to students in every undergraduate major or graduate program.

An Inside Look

What students are saying about us...

  • The small student-teacher ratio played a major factor in my success [at Carlow]. There were times when I needed extra help on my studies, and my professors went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my success. My professors always treated me with the utmost respect and were just as involved in my education as I was, which was a nice push when I needed it most.”
