  • Nancy Lieberman, the first woman to coach a professional men's basketball team, got her start as an Old Dominion University Lady Monarch.
  • During the second half of home basketball games at Old Dominion University, the whole arena uses a time out to take part in a one-of-a-kind cheer/dance, the "Ice Cream and Cake."
  • An annual tradition at Old Dominion University is the Painting of the Paws, where students paint mascot Big Blue's paw prints throughout the campus.
  • Old Dominion University was actually founded as an extension of both the College of William and Mary and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
