“What possibilities!”

Those are the words the University of Oklahoma’s first president, David Ross Boyd, said when he stepped off the train in Norman, Oklahoma, and onto the prairie land that would eventually be home to the University. Nearly 130 years later, the saying “What possibilities!” still rings true for OU students.

Academics
With the option to choose from 170+ majors—many ranked among the best in the nation—students can find their perfect degree program and embrace academic growth. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Allied Health, Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Atmospheric & Geographic Sciences, Business, Continuing Education, Dentistry, Earth & Energy, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, International Studies, Journalism & Mass Communication, Law, Liberal Studies, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

OU offers experiential learning opportunities and first-class facilities for all majors, allowing students to earn hands-on experience that’ll benefit postgraduate work. According to the National Science Foundation, OU ranked in the top 7.9 percentile in total research expenditures out of 915 ranked institutions nationwide for fiscal year 2020. Students are also encouraged to push past the Norman campus with the option to study abroad through programs in 200+ cities and 80+ countries.

Student life
OU’s student body is ranked as “the happiest among public schools” by The Princeton Review, due in part to the University’s vibrant campus life. Students can find their fit and use their free time in any of our 680+ student organizations or cheer on OU’s athletic teams, including the winningest program in the modern era of college football.

Diversity
OU has a culturally diverse student body, representing all 50 states, over 50 tribal affiliations, and more than 135 foreign countries. OU’s Diversity Enrichment Programs team guides prospective students from underrepresented communities during the admission process and partners with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to work toward building a welcoming and supportive campus. Open to all, OU’s Multicultural Programs and Services hosts events that teach the skills students need to become global citizens while supporting and celebrating specific constituency groups.

Norman and OKC
Like OU, Norman and Oklahoma City offer the best of both worlds—a small-town community and big-city resources. The third-largest city in Oklahoma, Norman is a vibrant college hub that’s been named the “City of Festivals” thanks to its regular large-scale activities and events. Additionally, just a 30-minute drive from campus is Oklahoma City, a major metropolitan area that provides students with entertainment options, cultural opportunities, a robust job market, and more.
