The University of North Carolina Wilmington, the state’s coastal university, is dedicated to the integration of teaching, mentoring, research, and service. UNCW is a public institution with 18,000 students and offers a full range of baccalaureate- and graduate-level programs, as well as doctoral degrees and many distance learning options. UNCW’s 58 undergraduate academic programs are housed in the Cameron School of Business, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Health & Human Services, Watson College of Education. Outside the classroom, students are involved in 300+ campus organizations, show their Seahawk pride for UNCW’s 19 NCAA Division I sports, and explore the historic downtown Wilmington and nearby beaches.

Coastal and Marine Science at UNCW

UNCW is an international, recognized leader in coastal and marine science education and research, and the first university in the U.S. to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in focused on coastal engineering. These programs leverage the university’s expertise in earth and ocean sciences, physical oceanography and environmental science, as well as the regional and geographic distinctiveness of coastal North Carolina. Students have the opportunity to experience extensive field research in the area’s waterways and coastal habitats under the direction of faculty scholars and access to state-of-the-art facilities, including the UNCW Center for Marine Science (CMS).
