The School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Southern Connecticut State University is one of the largest graduate schools in New England. Our mission is to promote excellence in all aspects of graduate education. SCSU offers graduate programs in over 55 areas of study in the fields of education, business, health and human services, and the arts and sciences. We have approximately 2,000 students pursuing graduate studies, including more than 800 full-time students.

A student-centered university
Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Southern’s campus has a vibrant, culturally rich, and ethnically diverse environment. The University also offers unique research opportunities, access to fascinating internships, and a commitment to preparing strong leaders. Many of our graduate programs are specifically designed for working professionals seeking to enhance their skills while advancing in their careers. Our flexible full- and part-time programs—such as the accelerated MBA with Saturday and online courses, our online MS in Sport & Entertainment Management, and the Doctor of Social Work—allow students to complete their graduate studies without putting their careers on hold. Additionally, our Accelerated Pathway programs allow undergraduate students to obtain both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just five years.

Southern continues to develop and maintain a thoroughly modern campus, with our new School of Business and a complete library renovation project in progress. The ongoing expansion of our science programs was greatly advanced with the completion of the new 103,608-sq. ft., four-level academic and laboratory science building. This new building enhances not only the ongoing expansion of Southern’s science programs but the University’s capacity to educate more students in STEM disciplines. Embracing an innovative, sustainable design, the building houses teaching and research training laboratories for nanotechnology, physics and optics, earth sciences, environmental sciences, cancer research, astronomy, molecular biology, and chemistry.

Faculty expertise
Southern’s nationally renowned graduate faculty represent a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and scholarly achievements. Many have achieved national and international recognition for scholarship and contributions to their professional disciplines. Faculty lend special expertise to the social, economic, governmental, business, and educational issues that impact businesses in Connecticut and the surrounding region. Southern students are inspired by the research, scholarship, and creative activity of our professors.
