Our academics + our faculty + our location =
a college experience you can’t get anywhere else.

With approximately 750 students, Paul Smith’s is a tight-knit, supportive, and conscientiously “green” college community. We offer 20+ bachelor’s and five associate degree programs, as well as a master’s degree in natural resources conservation.

From campus to career
Nine out of ten Smitties—that’s what we call Paul Smith’s alumni—land a job or go to grad school within six months of graduation. Our connections run deep, whether it’s with the natural environment or with local businesses in nearby world-famous Lake Placid. Paul Smith’s College graduates gain real-world experience through personal, hands-on learning, and go on to be environmental policymakers, entrepreneurs, park rangers, resort managers, and Fortune 500 CEOs.

Life in the Adirondacks
They don’t call us the College of the Adirondacks for nothing. Our campus is located inside the six-million-acre Adirondack Park, and when you live here, you take on the region’s resourceful, enterprising and adventurous spirit. We have renowned collegiate woodsmen’s and snowshoeing teams. And every February, you’ll gather with thousands of fellow Adirondackers in Saranac Lake to celebrate the East Coast’s longest-running Winter Carnival. In warm weather, borrow one of the college’s canoes, hike miles of trails at your doorstep, or tackle the campus high ropes course. In winter, you can hit the indoor campus climbing wall, ski 25+ miles of Nordic trails or take Olympic ski runs just 30 minutes from campus at Whiteface Mountain.

At Paul Smith’s College, it’s about the experience.
As the only four-year institution of higher education located in the Adirondack Park, Paul Smith’s provides real-world, hands-on learning in fields such as business and hospitality, culinary management, forestry, environmental sciences, and natural resources. We are able to draw on industries and resources available in our own backyard while preparing students for successful careers anywhere. Our community of resourceful, enterprising, supportive, and adventurous individuals collectively provide experiential education, student support in the classroom and beyond, and meaningful opportunities for our alumni. We pride ourselves on research and advocacy on issues that improve our planet and the lives of the people who inhabit it.

An Inside Look

What students are saying about us...

  • “I chose PSC because it seemed like a great community with many unique learning opportunities (and I could continue to play soccer). Plus, I love the ADK's! The FWS program has interesting classes that have a lot of hands-on opportunities to learn in the field—giving me the experience I would need in the future. PSC got me to where I am through an independent study class where I got to study abroad in Belize and study jaguars and other wild felids through camera traps.”

    • Anna Mehner '19
Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, Wildlife Concentration
  • “I chose PSC because I knew I would receive the education and hands-on experiences I needed to ensure I would have a successful career and future. I was also able to continue to play basketball. Thanks to the amazing faculty and staff at PSC, I am now the Assistant Rooms Operations Manager & Voyager at the JW Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana. Paul Smith's College has provided me with endless opportunities both as a student and now.”

    • Donovan Miller
      Hotel, Resort & Tourism Management
  • “PSC was more than just a college for me. Not only did I learn the science I needed to, and wanted to, but I also learned how to perform as a leader. I was exposed to opportunities that helped me grow beyond my education alone. Additionally, this tiny school provided me with the opportunities to travel beyond New York, and the US, for the first time in my life. I studied science as far as Nepal, Russia, Iceland, and the Rock Climbing team took me down to the southwest deserts. All of these experiences touched my life in irreplaceable ways. My time at PSC was one that can only be had at a very special place like this.”

    • Katherine Gale
      Environmental Science
  • “In 2013 I chose PSC as it was a very hands-on school that was conveniently located in the Adirondack State Park, and offered a wide array of outdoor activities while not in class. During my stay at Paul Smith's, one of the more valuable things that I picked up was the friends and professional contacts that I had made, With the help of these people, I was able to find my current career working as a Conservation Officer.”
