Johns Hopkins University emphasizes intellectual freedom and encourages students to explore ways to turn their interests into impact. For academically and musically advanced scholars, our Double Degree Program provides the unique opportunity to simultaneously pursue a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Fine Arts from Peabody Institute and a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science from Hopkins.
Through comprehensive excellent education, the Peabody Institute nurtures talent and creativity; provides aspiring musicians with the skills to sustain professional careers; fosters lifelong involvement in music and dance; and prepares students in artistic performance at the highest level.
Two schools, two homes
The Double Degree Program differs from double-majoring in that students are enrolled at two different colleges, meaning they become part of two communities and have access to an even wider network. It is designed as a five-year program.
Peabody Double Degree students must submit separate applications to both Johns Hopkins University and to the Peabody Institute and be accepted into both programs. They may apply via Early Decision (ED) to Johns Hopkins University and the Peabody Institute. Early Decision auditions for the Double Degree Program take place in early December. All applicants to the program will receive three separate decisions: one from each school and the Double Degree notification.
Access to notable faculty
Students learn from renowned artists and teachers at Peabody that include MacArthur and Guggenheim fellows, Fulbright grantees, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winners, and prizewinners in the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition and Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition. Among its most illustrious alumni are pianist André Watts, vocalists James Morris and Richard Cassilly, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Dominick Argento.

50+ student groups in dance, music, and theater present more than 120 major performances on campus every year. Dance studios, music practice rooms, rehearsal space and venues with seating from 150 to 1,000 are available.
Hopkins Symphony Orchestra (HSO) includes both a symphony orchestra and a smaller concert orchestra, with seven concerts scheduled on campus each year and often several off-campus performances. HSO players are students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Hopkins students are eligible to take free Dance Classes and attend performances through Hop Art.
The Digital Media Center is a multi-media lab, a resource for equipment and printing, and offers robust programming to engage and educate the Hopkins community who are interested in exploring uses of emerging media and technology to creatively communicate ideas.
The John Astin Theatre is home to the Undergraduate Program in Theatre Arts & Studies. It was named for Academy-Award nominee and star of TV’s The Addams Family, John Astin, who also serves as a Homewood Professor of the Arts.
